An SEO audit is a close check of everything that decides where your website shows up on Google, from whether Google can crawl your pages at all to how your content, Business Profile and links compare with the businesses ranking above you. Ours ends with a short list of fixes in the order we would make them, and a plain note on what to leave alone.
It usually comes down to one of eight reasons, and most sites that stall have more than one. Google has to find the page, understand what it is for, trust it more than the pages already ranking, and for local searches, connect it to a business near the person searching. A break anywhere in that chain keeps you off page one.
A noindex tag left on after a redesign, a robots.txt rule or a canonical tag pointing elsewhere can hide a page from Google entirely.
If one services page lists everything you do, Google has nothing specific to rank when someone searches for one of those services.
A title tag that says "Home" and a heading that says "Welcome" tell Google nothing about the job you want to be hired for.
When the top results answer cost, timing and process and yours has three sentences, Google has little reason to put you ahead of them.
Map results lean on your Google Business Profile: the primary category, your reviews, and business details that match everywhere they appear online.
Links from other real websites are still one of the ways Google judges trust, and a gap here takes time to close, so it pays to measure it early.
Google ranks the mobile version of your site. Heavy images and layouts that jump around hurt rankings and cost you calls from the people who do land.
Old page addresses that now return errors throw away the links and history those pages built up, which is why rankings often drop after a new site launches.
An SEO audit checks all eight and tells you which ones apply to your site. It runs in the first month of every SEO campaign we take on, because fixing the wrong problem first wastes months.
Pick every symptom that fits your site. The panel ranks the causes that most often sit behind that combination and names the part of the audit that confirms or rules out each one. It narrows the search; the audit gives the answer.
Pick one or more symptoms. The likely causes, ranked, will show up here with the audit section that checks each one.
The sections run in the same order the fixes get made, from whether Google can reach the site to how you compare with the businesses above you.
We crawl the site the way Google does and list broken links, redirect chains, duplicate pages, conflicting canonical tags, slow templates, Core Web Vitals problems and structured data errors. This is the core of technical SEO.
We compare the pages you want in Google with the pages Google has actually indexed, and find the ones left out, blocked, or indexed twice under different addresses.
Title tags, meta descriptions, H1s, headings, internal links, image alt text and schema, checked page by page against the keyword each page should target. The fixes are on-page SEO work.
We match the services and questions your customers search for against the pages you have, using keyword research, and flag missing pages, thin pages, and pages chasing the wrong search.
Your Google Business Profile category, services, hours, photos and reviews, plus whether your name, address and phone match across directories. The fixes live in local SEO.
Who links to you, which links point at pages that no longer exist, which ones look like spam, and how your link profile compares with the sites ranking above you.
We study the pages that rank where you want to be: what they cover, how they are built and who links to them, so the gap between you and them is measured instead of guessed.
We ask AI tools such as ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews the questions your customers ask, and note whether your business comes up and what is said about it when it does.
An audit that hands you two hundred warnings in no order isn't finished. Ours sorts every finding into three groups and says why each item sits where it does. The examples below are the kinds of findings that land in each group.
Problems blocking rankings or calls right now.
Work that moves pages already close to page one.
Warnings that look alarming in a tool and won't move a ranking.
Every item on the list says what is wrong, which page it is on, why it matters, and who can fix it: us, your web developer, or you. The "leave alone" group matters as much as the rest, because it keeps your budget off work that won't pay back.
Crawling software such as Screaming Frog is part of every SEO audit we run, alongside Ahrefs and your Google Search Console data. It is fast, it catches broken links and missing tags across hundreds of pages, and anyone can buy it. What it can't do is judge. It flags a missing meta description on a page nobody searches for with the same urgency as a noindex tag on your best service page.
Our audit adds a manual review on top of the crawl: your keyword strategy, the pages competing with yours, and the content gaps between them. That review is where the fix order comes from, and it is the part an automated report leaves for you to figure out.
Fixes build on each other. Content written for a page Google can't index earns nothing, and links pointed at a thin page lift it less than they should. Working the list in order means each fix counts the day it goes live.
We review your site, where it ranks today in the map results and the regular results, and who ranks above you. You get the biggest problems we found and what we would fix first, explained on a call with the people who would do the work.
Once you're on an SEO plan, we rerun audit checks every 30 to 45 days. A plugin update that blocks a page, a new page that competes with an old one, or a competitor's push shows up in the next check instead of months later.
An audit on its own changes nothing. The list is written so whoever does the work, our team or yours, can pick it up and start at the top.
The fix list becomes the first months of an SEO plan, worked in the same order. SEO plans start at $750 a month, and every monthly SEO report shows what was fixed and what moved.
Many fixes are one-time jobs: a redirect map, a removed noindex tag, a corrected page template. If you already have a web developer you trust, they can work straight from the list.
Most findings can be fixed on the site you already have. When the platform or theme itself blocks a fix, we say so plainly and explain what a new website would change.
I stumbled upon Design Me when I was in dire need of revamping my website's online visibility. My business had been struggling to make an impact in the competitive online market, and I needed a game-changer. I loved to work with John and Jason keep up the hard work

Yes. There is no charge and no obligation to hire us afterward. If the audit shows your site is in good shape and the problem is somewhere else, such as your ads or how calls are answered, we will tell you that too.
Yes. The SEO audit covers the site as it stands, whoever built it or runs it now, and we audit sites for businesses on Long Island and across the country. Where a platform such as Wix or Squarespace limits a fix, the audit says so rather than leaving it off the list.
A full SEO audit every six months is a sensible rhythm for most businesses. Run one sooner if you launch a new site, change platforms, merge pages or see a sudden drop in calls from search, because those are the moments when problems slip in unnoticed.
No. An audit finds the problems and puts them in order; rankings move when the fixes are made. Once the work is underway, most of our clients see ranking movement within 60 to 90 days, and the most competitive searches take longer.
Then the cause is usually one of two things: rankings for searches people make while researching rather than hiring, or pages that get visits but make calling hard. The first is a keyword problem and the second is a conversion problem on the page itself. The audit tells you which one you have before you spend money on either.
It shows where you stand today, which is the part most owners have never seen. No one can promise a mention in an AI answer, so the audit doesn't; it tells you what is missing and puts those fixes on the same list as everything else, in order.
Send the form or call. Tell us your website and the searches you want to show up for. We'll check the site, your map and regular rankings, and the businesses ranking above you, then walk you through what we would fix first and what we would leave alone.
