SEO reporting and Zoesi

SEO reporting that shows what your money did

SEO reporting should answer three questions every month: what we did, what moved, and how many calls and form submissions came in because of it. Ours is built on Zoesi, the reporting dashboard we built in house, which tracks your keyword rankings, your Map Pack position town by town, and whether AI models mention your business when someone asks who to hire.

What belongs in the report

What a useful SEO report shows, and what it leaves out

A report can be accurate and still useless. The test is simple: can you connect each number to a phone call, a form, or a job you want more of? If a number can't pass that test, it doesn't lead the report.

Your monthly SEO report sets Zoesi's rankings, Map Pack and AI mention data beside your calls, forms, and organic traffic, so every part of an SEO campaign is judged by the same thing you judge it by: whether the phone rang.

How to read your SEO report as an owner

You don't need to know SEO to judge SEO reporting. Read it in this order and you will know within one pass whether the month was good, and what to ask.

  1. 01

    Start with leads

Compare the calls and forms against your own records. Did those calls turn into booked jobs? That is the number the rest of the report has to explain.

  2. 02

    Check the map by town

For most local businesses, the Map Pack produces the calls. Look at the towns you actually want work from, not the ones that are easy to win.

  3. 03

    Scan rankings for direction

Look for your buying keywords moving toward the top of page one. A single keyword bouncing a spot or two is noise.

  4. 04

    Read traffic by page

A total can rise while your service pages stay flat. The page breakdown tells you which content is working.

  5. 05

    Read the notes last

What was done, what dropped and why, what happens next. If the notes don't match the numbers, ask us to explain the gap.

The one number only you can bring: how many of those leads became paying customers. Call tracking tells us the phone rang. Only you know if the job closed, and that close rate tells us which keywords and towns deserve more of the effort.

The basics

Search Console and analytics in plain English

Two free Google tools sit underneath almost every SEO report. Knowing what each one measures, and what it can't, makes the numbers much easier to trust.

Google Search Console

Shows how your site appears in Google Search before anyone clicks: which searches showed your pages, and how often people chose you.

Impressions
How many times a page of yours appeared in results. Useful for spotting new searches you are starting to show up for.
Clicks
How many of those appearances turned into a visit.
Average position
An average across every search, device, and location. It often reads lower than what you see when you search from your desk.
Indexing
Which pages Google has and hasn't added to its index, and why. Problems here are technical SEO work.

What it can't tell you: whether a visitor called, filled out a form, or hired you.

Google Analytics

Shows what visitors did after they reached your site: where they came from, where they landed, and what they did next.

Channel
Where the visit came from: organic search, paid ads, direct, referral, or social. This is how organic is kept apart from ads.
Landing page
The first page a visitor saw. It shows which pages are pulling people in from Google.
Sessions
Visits to your site. One person can make several.
Conversions
The actions you count as leads, such as a form submission or a tap on your phone number, marked in Analytics so they can be counted.

What it can't tell you: where you rank, or whether you show up on the map.

Most local customers call instead of filling out a form. That is why we set up call tracking, so a call from your website counts as a lead in the report instead of disappearing into your phone bill.

Search Console clicks and Analytics sessions rarely match. The two tools count in different ways, and some visitors block tracking. We report each one for what it measures well instead of forcing the numbers to agree.

AI search visibility

Tracking whether AI models name your business

A ranking report shows where you sit in Google's results. It can't show whether your name comes up when a customer asks an AI tool who to call, and some customers now start there.

The mentions block shows, month over month, whether AI models name your business when asked for a recommendation in your line of work, so you see the trend instead of testing it yourself from your phone.

What happens when you aren't named

We compare what the businesses that do get named have online with what yours has, usually starting with their service pages and their on-page SEO, and the changes we make go in the notes block with the rest of the month's work. The next report shows whether the trend moved.

When a number goes the wrong way

What we do when something drops

Rankings move every month, and some months they move down. A good SEO report doesn't hide a drop in a footnote. It names the drop, gives the likely cause, and says what we are doing about it, in the same report.

Symptom

Rankings fell across most keywords at once

First we check

Whether Google rolled out an update that week, whether anything changed on the site, like a redesign, a plugin update, or a page accidentally blocked from Google, and whether Search Console shows new errors.

Then

A site problem gets fixed first. If it was an update, we compare the pages that gained with yours and close the gap.

Symptom

One page lost its spot

First we check

Whether a competitor published a stronger page, whether your page was edited, and whether another page on your own site now competes for the same keyword.

Then

We strengthen the page, give each page one keyword, and point your internal links at the page that should win.

Symptom

The map slipped in one town

First we check

Your Business Profile for edits you didn't make, new competitor listings near that town, and how fast competitors there are collecting reviews.

Then

We fix the profile and aim local SEO work at that town: a page for it, reviews from customers there, and local links.

Symptom

Rankings held, but leads fell

First we check

The tracking itself: a broken form, a changed phone number, or a tracking tag removed during a site update. Then the season, then the page.

Then

We fix the tracking and test the forms. If the cause still isn't clear, a full SEO audit finds it.

You should hear about a drop from us, in the report, with a cause and a plan attached. You should never find a drop by searching for yourself first.

Monthly cadence

Every month, and who reads it with you

SEO moves slowly enough that a weekly report is mostly noise and fast enough that a quarterly one lets problems sit. Monthly is the right rhythm for SEO reporting: long enough for Google to react to the work, short enough to change course before a bad month becomes a bad quarter.

  1. 01You get the report, built around your keywords, your towns, and your leads.
  2. 02We walk you through it, so no number is left for you to decode alone.
  3. 03If something isn't performing, we change the plan that month, and the next report shows whether the change worked.

If we also run your Google Ads management, paid leads are reported separately from organic ones, so each channel is judged on what it produced by itself.
