The client and the challenge

One day spa, one small team, every spa on Long Island to beat

A single-location Sayville spa with a broad treatment menu.

Island Salt & Spa is a full-service day spa in Sayville, New York. The menu is broad: massage therapy, salt room halotherapy, facials, lymphatic drainage, microcurrent treatments, acupuncture, body treatments, Reiki, and couples experiences.

The business runs from one location with a small team. That team competes for the same searches as every spa on Long Island, plus the national health sites and publications that dominate questions about massage and salt therapy. A spa that size cannot outspend that field on ads. It can out-answer it.

The plan was to answer the questions spa customers actually ask, better than anyone else, and connect every answer to a bookable service.

That meant content at real depth, a clear path from each article to a service page, and local pages for the searches that happen closer to booking.

What we did

Five moves that built the traffic

Each move targeted a different kind of search, from insurance questions to couples plans, and each one fed the service pages.

Step 01

Insurance content that removes the price objection

Articles answering whether insurance covers massage now rank #1 for "does insurance cover massage therapy" (600 searches a month) and "are massages covered by insurance" (400). They answer the biggest financial question between a reader and a booking, and they point readers to the spa's NYSHIP massage service.

Step 02

Own the salt therapy topic

Pages covering benefits, side effects, the science, and local options. The site ranks #1 for "salt cave benefits", "what is a salt room", "dry salt therapy", "himalayan salt therapy", and dozens more.

Step 03

Build a couples silo

"Couples spa near me" (1,800 searches a month) ranks #7 and brings 151 visitors a month on its own. "Couples massage Long Island" ranks #2, with blog content supporting both.

Step 04

Link every blog post to a service

No article is a dead end. Each one sends readers to the service it discusses, so educational traffic turns into calls. The section below shows how that works.

Step 05

Write at real depth

277,485 words across 139 pages, close to 2,000 words a page on average. Every page answers a question customers ask, from first research to ready to book.

Step 04, up close

How readers became callers

Pick a topic to follow its path: the searches it wins, the article that wins them, and the service page it hands the reader to.

The results

262 keywords on page one, 87 of them first

About three quarters of the spa's 352 ranking keywords sit on page one of Google. Many are national, high-volume questions where a Sayville day spa outranks major publications, national brands, and medical sites.

Depth is what let a small spa win national questions. The pages on the right bring in the most organic visitors each month. The homepage leads, and informational articles fill most of the rest of the list.

The owner, and what came next

In the owner's words, and the result no dashboard shows

John, Jason, Chris, Nancy and the entire team are incredibly helpful and amazing. I have seen my page ranking, site traffic and conversions from my site drastically increase. It is a pleasure working with the Design ME Team.

Exit event SOLD

The owner sold the business. A buyer took over a single-location spa with about 19 calls a day, 4,300 active users in 28 days, and 262 page-one rankings.

We will not claim the sale happened because of SEO alone. What we can say is that the search presence and the steady calls it produced were part of what changed hands.

What you can take from it

Lessons for any local business with a small team

You do not need a spa to use this. The same approach works for a Long Island dental office, contractor, or insurance agency.

01

Answer the question that stops the sale

For the spa it was insurance. For you it might be price, financing, or how long a job takes. A page that answers it honestly ranks for the question and earns the call that follows.

02

Pick one topic and go deeper than anyone

Salt therapy was a niche the spa could own outright. Depth on one topic built the authority that lifted the rest of the site, which is how we approach SEO for smaller businesses.

03

Pair national reach with local pages

National articles bring readers. Local pages for searches like "salt cave Sayville" and "couples massage Long Island" catch them when they are ready to book. That second half is local SEO.

04

Count calls, and answer them

578 calls matter only if someone picks up. Call tracking logged 519 answered and 36 missed, a 93.5% answer rate on those calls. Track every call and measure the answer rate, or the rankings leak money at the front desk.
